Traditional Style Carved and Gilded Sign
This is a sign we designed and fabricated for a small town library in Alstead, New Hampshire.
The library is housed in an incredible 160 year old granite building with a domed roof and a small detail on top. When you come around the corner in this little New England town and see this building it looks a little out of place...or at least from another time. It was donated to the town by a gentleman that grew up in Alstead and went to Chicago were he worked his way up from a stock boy to own a large chain of retail stores. The top shape of the sign was taken from the shape of the roof. The sign is carved from solid HDU and finished in enamels.
The primary copy and the raised carved embellishments are gilded with 23K gold leaf. The lower panel was built to match and blends in as well as can be expected. It has an acrylic lockable cover that we added at the customers request. Making a cabinet like this double sided that is lockable and will continue to work for years is always a challenge but this one came out great. Everyone one was thrilled with the finished sign and so were we.
